Leveraging our core and differentiated strengths, we provide you with high-quality, comprehensive technology services
More
We provide professional optical product testing services (laser product safety testing and performance parameter testing, photobiological safety testing for non‑laser products), as well as energy efficiency testing services (EU ErP energy efficiency testing, US DOE energy efficiency testing, California CEC energy efficiency testing), among others.
If you have requirements for laser products (laser product safety testing and laser performance parameter testing) and energy efficiency testing (EU ErP energy efficiency testing, US DOE energy efficiency, California CEC energy efficiency, UK energy efficiency testing), please feel free to email us at: admin@ctnt-cert.com
1、 Standard positioning
IEC 60601-2-22 is a specialized parallel standard under the IEC 60601 series, officially known as "Medical Electrical Equipment Part 2-22: Specific Requirements for Basic Safety and Basic Performance of Surgical, Cosmetic, Therapeutic, and Diagnostic Laser Equipment". It does not conflict with the general standard IEC 60601-1, but rather supplements and rewrites it, specifically addressing the unique risks associated with using laser energy for human or animal use.
2、 Applicable objects
Covering laser as an energy transfer source for humans or animals:
Surgical laser (cutting, vaporization, coagulation)
Laser therapy (physical therapy, photodynamic therapy, etc.)
Diagnostic laser (imaging, detection)
Beauty/plastic surgery laser (hair removal, freckle removal, skin rejuvenation)
Veterinary laser equipment
The main categories in laser classification are:
Class 3B and Class 4 laser products
Class 1C (closed laser is actually Class 3B/4)
Class 1, 1M, 2, 2M, 3R are only in accordance with IEC 60825-1 and general standards; LED medical products are excluded and classified under IEC 60601-2-57.
3、 Core Security Concept
Centered around "basic security+basic performance":
Prevent unexpected laser emission
Control the dose and accuracy of intentional emission
Protect patients, operators, and bystanders from harm caused by light radiation
Balancing secondary risks such as electrical, mechanical, thermal, software, and electromagnetic compatibility
The inherent risks brought by the expected physiological effects themselves are generally not subject to separate provisions (unless the general standards involve physiological effects)
4、 Laser radiation control
Correctly graded and labeled according to IEC 60825-1
Key/password start to prevent unauthorized use
Protective cover/maintenance door with interlock, open to stop light
Obvious "ready" and "launching" photoacoustic indications
Emergency stop can immediately interrupt the output
There is protection logic in case of fiber/light guide arm disconnection or abnormality
Control the risk of unintentional leakage, reflection, and aiming light
5、 Output and parameter accuracy
Power, energy, pulse width, frequency, and irradiation time can be set, displayed, and verified
Control accuracy and drift limitations to avoid excessive or ineffective treatment
Target indication shall not introduce additional hazards
Output not out of control in fault state
6、 System and Attachment Security
Handle, probe, contact: mechanically stable, biocompatible, and resistant to disinfection
Cooling system: flow/temperature monitoring, leak prevention, overheating protection
Smoke/Aerosol: Explain the hazards of surgical smoke and reserve smoke exhaust interfaces
Programmable Systems (PEMS): Algorithms, state machines, and human-machine interfaces require risk control
The medical electrical system (ME System) as a whole should also meet the requirements of linkage safety
7、 Identification and documentation
Laser level, wavelength, maximum output, warning symbol
Eye protection requirements, key management, emergency stop position
The instruction manual clearly states taboos, calibration, maintenance, and troubleshooting
Risk documents, verification reports, and label symbols comply with the 60601 series requirements
8、 Compliance Value
This is one of the common technical bases for medical laser equipment in mainstream markets worldwide (CE, FDA, NMPA, etc.). When manufacturers register/certify, they usually need to submit:
IEC 60601-1 General Safety
IEC 60601-2-22 Laser specific
IEC 60825-1 Laser Grading
Risk management documents+EMC+performance validation
