Nail lamp GB 44703

2026-09-28 Industry News

GB 44703 is not a "nail lamp specific standard", but a mandatory safety general standard covering laser and incoherent light products; Nail lamps commonly use UVA/LED curing phototherapy adhesive, which usually falls within the scope of their incoherent light product management.

1、 Standard Basic Information

The Chinese name of GB 44703-2024 is "General Requirements for Optical Radiation Safety", which is issued by the State Administration for Market Regulation and the National Standardization Administration. The competent and centralized departments are both the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology; The release date is September 29, 2024, the implementation date is October 1, 2026, and the current status is "about to be implemented/mandatory implementation" node.

2、 Why is it related to nail lamps

This standard specifies the general requirements for risk classification, identification, and safety control of laser products, incoherent optical products, and their working processes; The scope of application covers laser products in the 180 nm to 1 mm wavelength range, as well as incoherent optical products in the 200 nm to 3 μ m wavelength range. If the nail lamp works with long wave ultraviolet LED or near ultraviolet/blue light LED, it generally falls within the management scope of the latter.

Prior to GB 44703, the safety of ultraviolet radiation relied heavily on recommended standards such as GB/T 20145-2006 and GB/T 30117.1-2024; It is also pointed out in relevant popular science articles that this situation will change with the release of the mandatory national standard GB 44703-2024, which will be officially implemented on October 1, 2026.

3、 Core Requirements Framework

The standard focuses on four aspects: risk classification, risk identification, safety control of luminescent products, and safety control of product working processes. The risk levels are classified from low to high as exemption level, low risk level, medium risk level, and high risk level; Unified warning, prohibition, and instruction graphic signs on the identification; On the product side, it is required to include risk levels, identification, and engineering controls in product specifications and manuals. For low-risk levels and above, risk sources should be identified and protective measures should be taken according to their intended use; On the usage side, it is required to incorporate the management of light radiation safety into the occupational health and safety management system.

4、 The actual impact on the nail lamp industry

The production end can no longer only conduct quality inspections that can light up and solidify, but should supplement the inspection of photobiological safety risk classification and labeling consistency. The instructions should clearly state warnings, prohibition of direct viewing, irradiation duration, applicable parts, abnormal handling, and other contents; In engineering, designs such as shading structures, timed shutdown, induction shutdown, and reducing touchable irradiance can be considered. If nail lamps are used in bulk in the store, especially in scenarios where multiple customers rotate and get close to their heads and eyes, it is more suitable to incorporate operating procedures, employee training, and customer reminders into daily safety management.

5、 Usage tips for consumers

Check the packaging/body for signs of light radiation safety risk level and warning instructions when purchasing; Avoid direct eye contact with light bulbs or reflective surfaces during use, control the duration of single exposure, and be more cautious for individuals with sensitive hand skin, sunburn, pregnancy, or a history of photosensitivity; Do not equate "LED nail lights" with completely risk-free, as their safety depends on wavelength, irradiance, distance, duration, and individual exposure conditions.
