We provide professional optical product testing services (laser product safety testing and performance parameter testing, photobiological safety testing for non‑laser products), as well as energy efficiency testing services (EU ErP energy efficiency testing, US DOE energy efficiency testing, California CEC energy efficiency testing), among others.
If you have requirements for laser products (laser product safety testing and laser performance parameter testing) and energy efficiency testing (EU ErP energy efficiency testing, US DOE energy efficiency, California CEC energy efficiency, UK energy efficiency testing), please feel free to email us at: admin@ctnt-cert.com
Mini fridges remain consistently popular across the European market, widely used in hotel rooms, studio apartments and office spaces.
However, many Chinese exporters overlook a critical requirement: besides conventional electrical safety testing, all small refrigerators must complete energy registration in the official EU EPREL database. Without EPREL registration and correctly affixed energy labels, goods will be detained at customs, and listings will be removed from e-commerce marketplaces.

Under EU legislation, mini fridges fall under the category of refrigerating appliances. Per Ecodesign Regulation (EU) 2019/2019, mains-powered refrigerating appliances with a total volume between 10 litres and 1,500 litres are subject to mandatory compliancePublicatio....
This rule applies to all single-door mini coolers and hotel minibars exceeding 10 litres in total capacity. Even minibars with a total volume ≤60 litres, though classified separately, still must follow energy labelling rules.
Key update: The old A+++ rating system has been fully phased out. The current energy efficiency scale runs from Class A to Class G. Many legacy models previously rated A+++ may only achieve Class C or D under the new test rules. Class G products are banned from sale within the EU.
EPREL registration cannot proceed without valid test reports issued by an accredited laboratory. The core metric is the Energy Efficiency Index (EEI).
EEI is calculated as the ratio of the product’s annual energy consumption against the standard reference annual consumption. All testing must be performed to the latest harmonised EU standards.
Key test items:
Power draw under rated operating conditions
Standby power consumption and off-mode power draw
Temperature performance for each refrigerating compartment
EU regulations strictly prohibit “test-mode optimisation”. If your product’s software automatically reduces power consumption when it detects laboratory test conditions, the product will be deemed non-compliant immediately. Manufacturers must guarantee mass-produced units are identical to the tested sample.
EPREL registration is done on a per-model basis, and all data must match the test report exactly. The biggest hurdle for non-EU companies is the legal supplier identity requirement.
Non-EU manufacturers cannot register accounts independently. The legal “supplier” entity in the EPREL system must be an EU-based manufacturer, importer or EU authorised representative (EU AR)European U....
If you sell directly to EU buyers: Your EU importer can complete the registration.
If you sell directly to end consumers via Amazon or other marketplaces (own brand): You must appoint an EU authorised representative to complete the EPREL filing on your behalf.
Create an EU Login account and complete organisational verification by submitting official business documents.
Select the product group “Refrigerating appliances”, then fill in all technical data: brand, model, total volume, energy consumption, noise level, etc.
Upload technical documentation and test reports; the system will generate a PDF energy label with a unique QR code.
Account verification often fails when companies cannot provide valid EU entity documents, locking the registration process.
Multiple brands sharing the same hardware model causes model name confusion and conflicting data entries in the database. Always finalise your full model naming system before starting registration.
Registration approval does not complete compliance. Market surveillance authorities routinely inspect physical label placement and online product information.
Mandatory content on the energy label:
Supplier name / trademark + model number
A–G energy efficiency class letter
Energy consumption under operating mode (kWh/100h)
EPREL QR code
Corresponding EU regulation number
Standard label size: 36 mm × 72 mm. Given the compact size of mini fridges, a simplified reduced-size label of 20 mm × 54 mm is permitted.
The electronic energy label and product information sheet must be clearly displayed on every product listing page. Exporters must embed the official EPREL QR code on the product page; do not rely solely on distributors to complete this step.
Suppliers must maintain full technical records to prove label accuracy. When audited by EU market surveillance authorities, you must submit the full electronic technical file within 10 calendar days.
Recommended document package for each model: Test reports, EEI calculation sheets, compartment temperature records, and the EU Declaration of Conformity (DoC). Store all files together in one model-specific folder.
Without EPREL registration or valid energy labels: Customs will refuse entry of shipments.
Post-market violations: Products will be forcibly withdrawn from sale, and financial fines will be issued.
For low-margin high-volume mini fridge shipments, port detention fees and lost sales far outweigh the cost of testing and EPREL registration.
Best practice: Lock in your testing laboratory and EU authorised representative at the product development stage. Add the EPREL registration number to your pre-shipment inspection checklist — avoid last-minute delays after goods arrive at European ports.
We provide full support for mini fridge EU market access:
EEI energy efficiency testing to EU harmonised standards, generating test reports accepted for EPREL filing.
EU authorised representative service to help Chinese companies complete EPREL account verification and model registration.
Generation of official EPREL energy labels (standard & simplified small-size versions) and DoC drafting.
Pre-audit of technical files to prevent rejection during market surveillance inspections.
