1. Overview of Dishwasher Exports to the EU Market

As European consumers pay increasing attention to energy‑saving and water‑saving household appliances, and the EU continuously tightens market‑access thresholds for energy performance, energy‑efficiency compliance has become an indispensable prerequisite for exporting enterprises. Energy‑efficiency ratings not only determine smooth customs clearance but also directly influence purchasing decisions. 2. EU Energy‑Efficiency Certification Requirements for Dishwashers

Two core energy‑related regulations apply to dishwashers placed on the EU market:

  1. ErP Ecodesign Directive (2009/125/EC)This directive imposes energy‑consumption limit requirements at the product‑design stage. The dedicated implementing measure for dishwashers is Regulation (EU) 2019/2022. Testing follows standard EN 50242, covering energy consumption under rated load, cleaning efficiency, Energy‑Efficiency Index (EEI), and standby/off‑mode power consumption. ErP is a mandatory regulation within the CE marking framework, enforced alongside the LVD and EMC directives.

  2. Energy‑Labelling Regulation (EU) 2017/1369Effective 1 March 2021, dishwashers fall under the revised seven‑grade A‑to‑G energy‑efficiency label, replacing the former A+++‑to‑D rating system. Rating thresholds have been significantly raised; some products previously rated A+++ under the old system may only achieve grade C or D after retesting. Products falling into grade G are prohibited from being placed on the EU market.


A compliant label shall contain six mandatory elements: supplier name or registered trademark, product model, energy‑efficiency grade letter, standard‑cycle energy consumption (kWh per 100 cycles), EPREL database QR‑code, and reference to the governing regulation number. The minimum label dimension is 36 mm × 72 mm; a simplified format of 20 mm × 54 mm is permitted for compact appliances.


3. EU Energy‑Label Registration Procedure for Dishwashers

Energy‑label registration for dishwashers must be completed within the EPREL (European Product Database for Energy Labelling). The step‑by‑step workflow is as follows:

Step 1: Energy‑efficiency testingSubmit dishwasher samples to a qualified energy‑efficiency laboratory. Tests are performed according to EN 50242 to obtain energy‑consumption and cleaning‑efficiency data, calculate the Energy‑Efficiency Index and assign the corresponding efficiency grade.


Step 2: Compile technical documentationAssemble product drawings, bill‑of‑materials, test reports, Declaration of Conformity (DoC) and other required documents.


Step 3: EPREL database registrationNon‑EU‑based companies cannot register EPREL accounts directly. A mandated EU‑based Authorised Representative is required to submit documentation on their behalf. Procedures include creating an EU‑LOGIN corporate account, linking the Authorised‑Representative information, and uploading product parameters plus test reports per model.


Step 4: Generate and upload energy labelsUpon successful review, the system generates official QR‑code‑embedded energy labels and product information sheets. Enterprises shall upload label files in JPG format to backend marketplaces such as Amazon, and print full‑colour labels onto product outer packaging.


Step 5: Marketplace displayFollowing upload, the label is normally visible on public product pages within approximately 24 hours if no non‑conformities are identified.

Total lead‑time depends on the following phases:

  • Energy‑efficiency testing: 1‑2 weeks, subject to sample readiness and laboratory scheduling

  • Technical‑document preparation: approx. 1 week, may run in parallel with testing

  • EPREL database submission: approx. 1 week for Authorised‑Representative account binding and dossier filing

  • Marketplace upload & review: 1‑2 working days


The full process generally takes 2‑3 weeks. Manufacturers are strongly advised to allocate at least two months ahead of shipment to avoid delivery delays caused by registration backlogs.
