Standard positioning and scope of application

GB/T 7247.1 is equivalent to the international standard IEC 60825-1, also known as "Safety of Laser Products Part 1: Equipment Classification, 

Requirements and User Guidelines". This standard applies to all laser products, and laser cutting equipment, as high-power industrial laser 

equipment, is a key controlled object.


Classification of laser safety levels

Laser cutting equipment usually belongs to Class 4 laser products, which is the highest hazard level:

Can cause skin burns and severe eye damage (including diffuse reflex injury)

May cause a fire

The strictest engineering control and management measures need to be taken

The equipment must be clearly labeled with a Class 4 warning label


Core security requirements

Engineering control measures

Interlocking protective door: The work area must be equipped with a closed protective cover with safety interlock, and the laser will automatically cut 

off when the door is opened

Emergency stop device: an easily accessible emergency stop button that covers all operating positions of the equipment

Beam terminator/attenuator: prevents accidental emission

Key control: Master control key switch to prevent unauthorized start

Warning label: Post laser warning labels in a prominent position on the device that comply with standard formats

Radiation safety limit

It is necessary to measure and ensure that the achievable emission level (AEL) of the equipment meets the Class 4 limit requirements under normal 

operation and foreseeable single fault conditions

Evaluate and control the secondary radiation generated during the cutting process, such as reflections from molten metal


Testing and evaluation content

Measurement of achievable emission level (wavelength, power/energy, pulse characteristics)

Integrity and interlocking function testing of protective cover

Compliance check of warning signs

User manual safety information review

Fault condition simulation test

Manufacturers need to prepare complete technical documents, including:

Product description and laser parameters (wavelength, power, working mode)

Hazard assessment report

Safety design instructions and list of protective measures

Test report (issued by a qualified laboratory)

User manual (including safety warnings, protective requirements, and maintenance guidelines)

GB/T 15313 (Laser Terminology)
