Laser stage lights GB/T 7247.1 certification

2026-06-24 Industry News

1. Basic information of the standard

GB/T 7247.1-2024 "Safety of Laser Products - Part 1: Equipment Classification and Requirements" was published on September 29, 2024, and

officially implemented on April 1, 2025. It is equivalent to the international standard IEC 60825-1:2014 and replaces the old version GB 7247.1-2012.

This standard applies to all laser products with a wavelength range from 180nm to 1mm. Laser stage lights, which are typical entertainment laser

products, must meet the safety requirements of this standard.

II. Safety Classification of Laser Stage Lights

Laser stage lights typically fall into Class 3B or Class 4 laser products. Direct vision of the beam or specular reflection of the beam from Class 3B

lasers can cause severe eye damage; Class 4 lasers are high-power lasers, which are not only harmful when viewed directly, but their diffuse reflection

can also cause eye damage and pose a risk of fire or skin burns. The standard categorizes laser products into seven levels: Class 1, Class 1M, Class 2,

Class 2M, Class 3R, Class 3B, and Class 4, based on the degree of harm caused by laser radiation to the human body, especially the eyes and skin.

III. Core testing items

Laser radiation parameter measurement

The laboratory requires the use of calibrated laser power meters, energy meters, spectral analyzers, and radiometric geometric analysis equipment

to precisely measure the accessible emission level (AEL) of laser products. Key parameters include radiant power and energy, pulse width and repetition

rate, wavelength, as well as beam divergence angle and spot size.

Safety level determination

Compare the measured data with the achievable emission limit (AEL) under the corresponding wavelength and exposure time specified in the standard,

to determine whether the radiation level of the product exceeds the limit of a specific level under normal use, maintenance, and foreseeable fault

conditions, thereby accurately assigning its safety level.

Verification of protective measures

The inspection includes the examination and evaluation of the built-in safety protection measures of the product, such as whether the protective housing

effectively seals out unintended radiation, whether the safety interlock device can automatically cut off the laser output when the protective cover is

opened, whether Class 3B and Class 4 products are equipped with key controls to prevent unauthorized use, and whether the beam stopper or attenuator

can prevent unrestricted emission of laser light.

Identification and document review

The product must be clearly and permanently marked with warning information such as laser safety level, wavelength, and maximum output power. The

user manual should provide detailed descriptions of the potential hazards of the product, safe operation methods, maintenance requirements, and

emergency response measures.

IV. Certification processing procedure

Information preparation and application

Manufacturers are required to submit applications to testing institutions with CNAS/CMA qualifications, providing product technical specifications

(including laser wavelength, output power, operating mode), circuit diagrams and optical structure diagrams, user manuals, and laser warning label

 design documents, etc.

sample testing

The laboratory conducts comprehensive testing, including laser radiation measurement, classification assessment, and protective performance

testing. For stage laser lights, it is also necessary to assess the safe distance and scanning range in the actual usage environment to ensure that

the beam scanning range and irradiance do not exceed the limits.

Report issuance and certification

Upon passing the test, the testing agency will issue a compliance testing report in accordance with GB/T 7247.1-2024. The regular testing cycle is

typically 5 to 7 working days, while expedited service can be completed within 3 working days. This report is a necessary condition for the

compliant sale of the product in the Chinese market.

V. Special safety requirements for stage lights

As a Class 3B or Class 4 product, laser stage lights must be equipped with safety interlock devices to prevent misoperation, and the beam scanning

range must be strictly controlled. Under the condition that personnel exposure time is less than 0.25 seconds, the irradiance must not exceed 1mW/cm².

Additionally, the equipment should feature a key switch control to prevent unauthorized use and ensure automatic shutoff of laser output when the

protective cover is opened.

VI. Certification significance and compliance value

Obtaining a compliance report through testing in accordance with GB/T 7247.1 is a necessary condition for the legal sale of laser stage lights in the

Chinese market. This standard is equivalent to IEC 60825-1:2014, and obtaining domestic certification can facilitate simultaneous applications for EU

CE (EN 60825-1) or US FDA (21 CFR 1040.10) certification, thereby aiding product exports. Additionally, compliance certification can effectively reduce

legal risks such as product recalls and fines caused by product safety issues, enhancing brand reputation and market competitiveness.
